GUIDE TO CERTIFICATION
The main organisations to be aware of are:
Association of Insurance Surveyors
AIS produce the Official Safe List that is used by many insurance companies around the country. For a manufacturer to get their product on this list then they need to have a test certificate from an EFSG, LPCB or Sold Secure test laboratory.
The safe with the AIS approved sticker will be given its full rating by all major UK insurers. The badge means that the AIS have been given a copy of the test certificate and have recognised it to be a) valid and b) from a reputable test house.
Secured By Design (SBD) - Police security initiative
Secured by Design member company status is awarded to companies producing security products that pass standards and tests nominated by the police service. The standards and related tests must demonstrate the product effectiveness in preventing or reducing crime, usually by resistance to physical attack.
SBD is a scheme run by the UK Police to promote products that are tested to the highest standards and they now approve all products that carry a test certificate from ECB-S, LPCB or Sold Secure.
European Certification Body
European Certification Body with its ECB•S certification mark guarantees maximum security properties to European standards. At present, there are approximately 1000 valid ECB•S certificates in the global security market. For the user, it offers maximum security in investment decisions. For the insurance industry, it is a reliable and objective basis for risk calculation and the resulting insurance grading.
